Training Program

We're proud to introduce the IATSE Local 634 Training Program — a brand-new initiative designed to help emerging film workers gain the hands-on experience, mentorship, and union knowledge they need to succeed on professional film sets.

Whether you're a film school graduate, a student seeking summer work, or someone with non-union experience ready to take the next step, this program offers a practical and supportive path into the unionized world of film and television production.

Who Should Apply?

We're looking for:

  • Recent graduates of college-level film programs

  • Current film students seeking summer employment

  • Workers with experience on non-union sets who want to transition into union production

 

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Have minimal prior experience on IATSE Local 634 productions

  • Be enrolled in or have completed a film-related academic program or have practical non-union film experience

  • Be ready for a flexible, physically demanding work environment

  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and teamwork skills

  • Choose a preferred department to train in (e.g., Grip, Hair, Props, etc.)

  • Show an interest in union rules, safety standards, and collaborative practices

 

Program Highlights

  • Hands-On Department Training
    Get real-world experience in one of 15 departments, including Grip, Lighting, Costumes, Set Dec, and more.

  • Swing Positions
    Broaden your skill set with occasional training in closely related departments (e.g., Props & Set Dec, Hair & Makeup, Grip & Electric).

  • Mentorship
    Receive guidance and feedback from seasoned IATSE members in your chosen field.

  • Safety & Union Protocols Training
    Learn essential safety procedures and union workplace standards right from the start.

  • Evaluations & Support
    Your performance will be reviewed regularly to ensure you're progressing toward a successful union career.

 

Commitment

This is a 2–6 week paid program, with schedules that may include evenings, weekends, or overnight work. Trainees must be fully committed and reliable — this is real work on real sets.
